Who is Aura?

I am a grassroots organizer with a commitment to advocating for the liberation and joy of Black, Indigenous, and people of color.

Though my career began as a birthworker and public health researcher, I now lend my creativity to conservation and environmental justice work as a budding ecologist and certified scuba diver. I am passionate about science communication and education as a means of preservation and connecting people to the lands and seas that have supported us for millennia. I also lend my voice to support domestic and global initiatives that invest in young people’s right to bodily autonomy and a just future through professional development and collective healing.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in 2021, studying a mix of Cultural Anthropology, Gender Studies, and Sociology. After becoming a doula just before the COVID lockdowns, it felt timely to focus my research on highlighting how birth stories and generational trauma document a history of medical racism. In 2022, moving from campus to the working world, I continued to protect birthing people and those who choose not to as a full-time reproductive justice organizer.

At the time, I also offered free abortion doula services, sexual health education, and youth mentorship in Atlanta, Georgia. As I deepened my time in the movement, my connections broadened across coasts and brought social justice, LGBTQ+ issues, and youth rights to panel discussions in Washington, DC and at the United Nations Headquarters for the Summit of the Future in New York City. All the way on the West Coast, in April 2024, I was a plenary speaker and one of three Americans at the ICPD30 Global Youth Summit in Cotonou, Benin.

My travels span Central America and the Caribbean as I visit and reclaim my roots across the diaspora, from my island homes of Bermuda and Jamaica to my honorary home in Costa Rica. I fell in love with protecting the ocean and marine life after scuba diving in Mexico and Belize with my seven best friends, all Black girls living in a blue world.

When I am not traveling, I live in New England on the land from which I was birthed, deepening my praxis of joy and liberation, most likely getting cozy or wishing I were while engaging with Black feminist and futurist thought. This has always fueled my fascination with people and my commitment to public service. As of 2025, I remain on the front lines of community service as a full-time youth coach and have expanded into environmental justice work, taking water quality samples and data for my local watershed as a budding ecologist, urban gardener, and land steward.
